"Jamar," a 1986 Beneteau First 405, is an outstanding example of a vessel equipped for true bluewater cruising.
This boat has been extensively customized and equipped with numerous systems and gear needed for safe, comfortable and extended cruising. Built at a time when robust construction of sailboats was common, the fiberglass hull features a 5'7" shoal keel. The engine is a reliable 45hp Perkins 4.108 driving a two-blade feathering MaxProp. The sails include a 150 Genoa, main, spinnaker and storm jib, all in excellent condition.
This boat has been extensively customized and equipped with numerous systems and gear with an emphasis on safety, redundancy and comfort needed for extended cruising. Safety features include upgraded heavy duty rigging, an anti-gybe system, 6 person liferaft, dual anchors on the
bow with vertical windlass, drogue and para sea anchor, storm covers and four bilge pumps.
Enhanced systems for long distance cruising include a larger 430 AH house battery, wind and solar power, upgraded alternator and shore power charger, inverter, HF radio, wind vane, electronic autopilot and a dual mode refrigerator.
