The Oyster 575 was designed as a replacement for the Oyster 56, a tough act to follow as the 56 was our best selling model with seventy-five launched. The 575 is only a little longer than the 56 but fills the same niche – a safe, comfortable, ocean-going cruising yacht, that is also compact enough to be handled by a couple.
When compared to the 56, the 575 has longer waterline, more powerful aft sections and more sail area, but the real difference is in her internal volume, which allows much larger cabins and more space in the saloon and galley. On deck the 575 is the smallest Oyster to be launched with twin wheels, a great feature that improves the view from the helm, but also permits easy access into the cockpit and below from the aft deck.
With nearly forty-five 575s launched from 2010 to the present, exceeded all our expectations, and continues to sell well. There were plenty of options for 575 buyers – the stern could be specified with classic retroussé transom and sugar scoop or extended transom with counter stern. Keel choices were deep high-performance bulb, shoal or lifting keel, and there were other options around the rig and interior layout.
Launched in 2013, and specified by an experienced Oyster owner, Helen is a true blue water cruiser and liveaboard. She has a lifting keel, so she draws just 1.65m (5’5”) with the keel up and 3.82m (12’6”) with keel down, giving her unrivalled access to shallower harbours and creeks and reducing dinghy journeys.
Helen is easy to handle, with push button hydraulic furling to her mainsail, staysail and genoa. Below decks the owner has tweaked the standard layout; there is a door into the owners stateroom from the fourth cabin, which allows access to the owner’s stateroom without pushing past the chef. Forward, there is an additional head/shower so Helen has berths for eight in four cabins, with three head/shower giving a versatile and flexible layout.
Helen is very well presented and her owner has brought her back to Ipswich to be sold, so an early viewing is recommended.
