CONSTRUCTION

HULL NUMBER : Oyster 745/04.

HULL CONSTRUCTION : Constructed of Fibre Reinforced Plastics (FRP) and sandwich materials, moulded in female tooling developed by Oyster. The FRP lay-up specification is calculated to meet and exceed the Det Norske Veritas (DNV) rules for light and high speed craft scantlings.

Moulded using vinylester resin with the outer topside finished in a white NPG gelcoat. Vinylester resin is utilised for its impermeable properties and forms a strong matrix for the fibres.

The laminate material comprises a combination of E-glass, CSM, bi-axial and quadaxial mats with carbon UD reinforcement specially designed for the yacht by Oyster’s structural engineers. The topside laminate has a high-tech, foam-cored, E-glass sandwich above the waterline for additional strength, stiffness and insulation.

Beneath the waterline the hull features a monolithic (single-skin) composite laminate, reinforced with a web of stringers and floors. Combined with an arrangement of BS1088 standard marine-ply and glass/carbon/foam sandwich structural bulkheads. The main V1/D1 chainplates are constructed in carbon fibre and are integrally bonded into the hull structure. Local reinforcement is applied at the keel recess, the keel longitudinals, mast bulkhead, P-bracket, forestay and hull stringers.Limber holes and tubes are installed at appropriate points. Stringers, bulkhead landings and floors are formed over inert polyurethane foam.

HULL FINISH : ‘White’ hull with ‘Orange’ cove line and double boot top lines in ‘Dark Blue/Black.’
New Seajet Platinum antifouling (May 2019).

DECK CONSTRUCTION :Moulded in FRP with a PVC foam core sandwich structure for strength and insulation.
In load bearing areas the core is replaced with plywood or monolithic glass for additional strength. All load-bearing fittings have backing plates.
L-section beams and foam-cored frames with carbon unidirectional capping provide additional strength and give more stiffness to load bearing and stressed areas.

DECK FINISH : The weather deck, cockpit seats and sole areas are planked with quarter-sawn teak, laid using epoxy adhesive with no visible fastenings. Where appropriate locker hinges, catches and fillers are recessed into the teak planking.
The deck edge incorporates a bulwark, featuring relatively flat side decks. The top of this bulwark has a clean gelcoat finish, giving a modern and stylish rolled edge.
Stanchions and cleats are mounted on the bulwark.Internal scupper drains are installed along the deck edge.

KEEL : High performance bulb (HPB) external lead keel.

RUDDER : Twin spade rudders with substantial carbon/epoxy skinned PVC foam-filled blades, bonded to carbon/epoxy composite rudderstocks.

STERN DESIGN : Extended transom incorporating a platform instep for bathing and boarding.

Demountable stainless steel bathing/boarding ladder with oval treads, which can be stowed in the lazarette. The ladder is fitted with a lanyard and retaining pin for retrieval/ stowage.

The dropdown transom is raised and lowered by hydraulic rams powered via a hydraulic power pack, giving an open platform for boarding from a tender or for water sports. A push button control is used to operate the platform rams.

The platform surface is planked with teak decking and there are a pair of fold up cleats
for use with the tender, and a pair of removable dinghy bumper bars.

Self-deploying, folding stairs trimmed with teak are incorporated into the transom for
easy access to the stern deck.
