Parker boats have always been known as rough-and-ready fishing machines, whether you were considering their line of center consoles or their pilot house boat models. In recent years, however, they’ve been rolling out a new generation of boats that maintain the fishing-first focus while also adding in a healthy heaping of family-friendliness and comfort.

Parker 2420 SC Design

If you’re looking for a boat with a fully protected helmdeck and lower cabin forward plus a wide-open cockpit aft, the 2420 SC is likely already on your radar screen. The lower cabin is dedicated to a berth (with a portable head underneath) and the helmdeck cabin includes the helm and seating for a couple of passengers. Parker is unusual in that they also offer an aft helm station, outside of the cabin in the cockpit. For anglers who need to be able to adjust the boat’s position while casting or steer the boat from the cockpit while trolling, this can be a make-or-break feature. Other than this, the cockpit’s design is as straightforward and simple as you’ll ever see: a wide-open fish-fighting arena with a fold-away seat along the transom.

The basic layout follows Parker's traditional form, with a wide-open cockpit that's ideal for anglers. Image via Parker.

The hullform holds true to the parker heritage, with a 21-degree deep-V. The surprise below deck-level on this boat is the motor bracket/swim platform. It’s a substantial structure which moves the outboards far aft, adds several feet to the boat’s LOA, and helps provide an ideal balance and weight distribution.

Parker 2420 SC Fishing Features

The 2420 is first and foremost a fishing machine and that wide-open cockpit is its biggest asset, however, there’s plenty more to talk about. Start with the fact that sidedecks are protected by relatively tall bowrails, allowing an angler or two to work their way forward and reclaim the bow as fishing space.

The transom incorporates a livewell and fishbox, with the fishbox being a serious highlight. It’s a tuna-sized compartment large enough to climb into, and it’s complemented by a pair of additional fishboxes in the deck. On this boat, it will be exceptionally difficult to catch more fish than you can ice down.

Four flush-mount rodholders sit in the gunwales and the raw water washdown is included standard. Any angler worth his or her salt will be opting to add the six-rod rack of rocket launchers on the hardtop, spreader lights, and a factory-installed Garmin system including radar and the upgraded GT12M-TH CHIRP transducer.

Parker 2420 SC Family and Comfort Features

Creature comforts for the family are where you see the real changes from old-school Parkers to the new generation, and the 2420 SC has plenty of examples. The lower cabin has foam padding lining the sides around the berth, making it comfortable to sit and lean back in any direction. The berth’s size is expanded, too, thanks to the helm station being open underneath. And rather than being the lift-out variety, the head has a pump-out.

A four-speaker Wet Sounds stereo system comes standard on the boat, as do both port and starboard windshield wipers. Many boaters looking for a bit more than the usual pilothouse boat offers will want to consider a number of the optional features, too. There’s a Bimini-style cockpit sunshade that can be added on, along with coaming bolsters to pad the inwales. If you plan to head out in the blazing summer sun but don’t enjoy being baked while aboard the 12-V air conditioning system might be in order. And the seat pedestals can be upgraded to shock-absorbing Seasupension pedestals.

Parker 2420 SC Performance

The 2420 SC can be ordered with either a single or twin outboards up to 400 hp total. A single Yamaha F350 proves to be an excellent all-around power choice, providing a cruise in the upper 30s at 4500 rpm and a wide-open throttle top-end of right around 50 mph. What’s more, fuel economy is excellent clocking in at over 2.2 mpg at a fast cruise and at over 2.8 mpg when run at 3500 rpm (around 27 mph). Jumping up to twin 200s boosts cruise and top-end by five to seven mph while also delivering the security of having two powerplants, though it also boosts initial cost, operational expenses, and maintenance, accordingly.
