Description

Monsoon is a 1978 large ocean-going cruising ketch that was professionally designed and built and is well equipped for the most demanding of open ocean voyages and has made three Pacific Ocean crossings.

She carries all furling sails, a 185 horsepower marine diesel engine and twin diesel generators.  Monsoon has a pleasant and comfortable interior and plenty of seating in both sun and in shade.

The vessel combines the graceful lines of a modern "Philip Rhodes-style" motor sailer with the rugged and sure proven seaworthiness of the most able offshore cruiser.  She is a roomy, seaworthy and sea kindly vessel, designed and equipped for living aboard and extensive cruising in comfort and safety.

Space and headroom are essential on a live aboard yacht. Apart from the 5 cabins (3 double + 2 twin), there are 3 separate living areas (aft deck seating - pilothouse - salon) which can provide lots of space, perfect for a live-aboard situation and those with a bigger group or family.  She is a big boat, yet she sails like a 50 footer, the sails are not enormous and the furlers are easy to operate.

Accommodation

The semi-enclosed alloy pilothouse (Canvas 2020) standing on deck level, offers seating around a big table for 8 people with shade, fresh air, permanent view over all ship system controls and protection against the sea.

The Aft deck has half round / full width stern seating 8 people.

All cabins, companionways, salon galley and pilothouse have a headroom of 6' 6".

Lots of sunbathing spaces all around, enormous teak decking (Completely new Teak deck 2007/8).

Galley

The alloy deckhouse galley/salon offers L-shaped seating for 8 around the dinner table and gives a perfect panoramic view over the sea.

L- shaped sofa with a dinner table

Portside is a nice and practical galley with a big fridge, electric stove, warm and cold water, oven, coffee maker.

All around mahogany paneling with various woodcarvings and on the aft bulkhead is the entertainment center and stereo.
The saloon has a solid half inch teak sole.

Sails, Rigging & Equipment

Monsoon is ketch rigged, and her mainsail and mizzen sail have the famous NZ Leisure furler.

The two head sails are all on Reckmann furlers.

Monsoon can be sailed by one couple, and if necessary by one person alone. The current Owner does sail the boat alone every now and then with help from the SIMRAD AP50 autopilot.
