Description
Tamuree Orca 43 from 1980, this specimen has been completely refitted over time with engine replacement and refurbishment of the
Teak deck of excellent thickness and quality, followed by updates in 2022/23 always by the second
owner (since 1994) as per the technical sheet. Internal description: two double cabins at the stern with navigation
and a spacious saloon designed with 4 berths for long voyages or a comfortable dinette with a central table and ample
shelves and lockers, at the bow on the side the kitchen and the double owner's cabin and the large bathroom with Webasto heating
added in 2023. The Orca 43 was conceived by the renowned American designer Dick Carter as a boat capable
of competing in the Admiral's Cup of the early '70s under the IOR regulation. Carter's direct competitors
at that time were the S&S builders, also American.
He, in particular, studied the IOR regulation thoroughly in order to fully exploit its possibilities and achieve a fast hull with the minimum possible rating. In particular, the designs of the rudder with a notable body that continues the line of the hull and the
bottom of the underwater part, practically flat, are very original.
The shape of the hull is very elegant and quite different from modern shapes. Notably, the large bow rise, the small triangular transom, and the raised waterline are evident. Even in plan view, the Orca 43 stands out for its very tapered bow and stern and wide midship body. The deck is flush-deck and makes it appear very spacious. The high construction standards are evident, for example, in the use of AISI 316 stainless steel profiles for the bulkhead, frames, and ribs. The bulb weighing 3500 kg of lead and 2% antimony is secured with 9 stainless steel threaded rods of 24mm. The rods end, inside the keel, in special inspectable pockets where they are secured with nuts and washers.
To this day, there is no sign of osmosis in the fiberglass of the hull, also because it was built with first-quality material and is made of solid fiberglass with thick layers without sandwich construction. Another sign of excellent standards: the deck and hull
were joined during construction with bolts and resin-coated fiberglass patches.
