Detailed inventory: Construction
Composite catamaran, Simpson 44 type, built in 1992, launched in 2002, by the renowned Australian architect and builder Roger SIMPSON. Renovated in 2007.
Built in marine plywood, double ply below the waterline to have a shaped hull, covered with bi-axial fiberglass and epoxy resin. The hull was built in Australia by a shipyard and then finished over a long period, 10 years but never launched, first launched in 2002.
It is rigged as a sloop, with a genoa at the masthead and a removable forestay.
This type of catamaran is famous in Australia because one of them survived without crew the very famous "Queen's birthday storm".
An accident in 2007 allowed for a complete redesign of the catamaran: layout, propulsion, electricity, complete refurbishment:
Addition of large fiberglass aft skirts – epoxy resin.
Stratification with epoxy resin and fiberglass of the deck and cockpit as well as all the underwater works (parts of the hulls submerged), of the nacelle (interior and exterior) and of the interior of the hulls up to the waterline. Reinforced keels with unidirectional fiberglass.
Reinforcement of the structure with cabin floors forming flotation reserves and creating a double hull in case of accident; those in the galley and workshop floors can serve as diesel tanks.

We have sailed around the world for more than 40 years on our 5 different sailboats and this catamaran has allowed us to sail in Polynesia for 20 years. Now it's time to go and cultivate our vegetable garden.
This catamaran is perfect for someone who is looking above all for the comfort of a catamaran and safety: she can't compete with the latest generation catamarans in terms of speed but she gains in robustness and simplicity.
For the last 8 years, the boat has only been used 4 months a year and only makes one round trip between the Tuamotus and the Marquesas Islands each year.
She is the perfect catamaran for a couple with one or two children. Sturdy and simple!
