Description
Southern Marine Malahide Trawlers were famously fashioned after the North Sea Trawlers common to the North Sea fishing fleet. Designed by Myles Stapleton, a famous Naval Architect in Ireland; her construction is heavy plank on frame 2-inch thick Iroko fastened with 3/8" galvanized steel spikes. Her decks are Iroko as well, laid over marine plywood and caulked. She is powered by a bullet-proof T-8, 8-cylinder Kelvin Marine Diesel engine producing 240 hp at 1,000 RPMs. Her 3 1/2 " stainless steel shaft turns a 4-blade bronze propellor. Her electrical system is 12-24 vdc and was upgraded with more modern equipment in 2010. all of ORINA systems reportedly work.
Orina's hull was finished in Portugal and then she was towed to Dublin Ireland for fitting out. Her fit and finish was exceptional. Her accommodations include 3-generous double guest staterooms mid-ship and aft and crew berth forward.
This storied ship M/V ORINA made at least eight voyages up the inside passage through the Canadian provinces of British Columbia and the Yukon to Alaska. All of her adventures are chronicled in the Masters book "INSIDE THE INSIDE PASSAGE: TRUE STORIES FROM THE LAND OF THE SPIRIT BEAR."
Owners' health forces sale, all offers considered. She is in need of some sweat equity and TLC! This is an opportunity to own a storied proven ship at a very reasonable price. See her sister ship CALYPSO of MALAHIDE on Yachtworld currently for sale in Palma Spain.
