Layout

From the aft deck, you enter the wheelhouse, which houses a compact kitchen with a corner kitchen equipped with all conveniences and a dining area with a fixed bench. From the dining area, you have a beautiful view over the Linge and passing ships. From here, the aft cabin is accessible, where the master bedroom is located with a fixed bed and plenty of storage space.

From the wheelhouse, a passage has been made to the former cargo hold, where you first arrive in the spacious living room. Here is a second dining area, an office, and ample seating around the wood stove. The living room features a hardwood floor divided into various panels, and the many skylights make it very bright inside. The built-in cabinets complete the whole. Further forward, you pass the bathroom, laundry room (or 3rd bedroom), toilet, and 2 bedrooms next to each other, at the front of the ship.

From the outside, the technical room (engine room) and front wheelhouse are accessible. The latter offers the possibility to house many items.

Surroundings

The houseboat Hendrika is moored in the museum harbor of Gorinchem with 5 other (residential) ships. The river Linge enters the fortified town of Gorinchem here, making the immediate surroundings feel very green. The mill Nooit Volmaakt stands on the other bank at Bagijnerwal. The fortress walls offer the opportunity to walk around the city in greenery.

Gorinchem is part of the UNESCO World Heritage: The Dutch Water Lines. Gorinchem is the largest and most intact fortress in the Netherlands. Due to its location on the Linge, Merwede, and the Merwede Canal, the fortress is surrounded by waterways, which are part of the fortifications.

The city of Gorinchem is well-equipped, and the larger cities of Dordrecht, Breda, and Utrecht are easily accessible by train or highways (A27/A15). Due to the preservation of the city center, Gorinchem feels very cozy and pleasant.

Technology

The current owners have owned the Tjalk Hendrika since 2006. They have systematically implemented improvements, making the ship very complete. In 2019, the ship was out of the water for necessary inspections and improvements, and the CBB is valid until 2027.

The houseboat is well insulated, and for heating, you have the choice of a diesel central heating system, wood stove, or an air conditioning unit. The solar panels combined with the battery pack and inverter make it completely self-sufficient.
