Amara is a Ron Holland designed Magnum 46.5, custom built by Reliant Yachts in Durban, South Africa in 2003/04 (hull #001). She is a proven bluewater cruiser–racer, combining elegant lines, offshore strength, and a practical, comfortable interior. Built for performance and safety, she has the pedigree and equipment to carry you confidently across oceans. Her powerful sloop rig, wide beam (14’6”), and deep fin keel deliver both speed and stability under sail, while her twin cockpit layout offers secure handling and comfort. Teak decks were professionally re-caulked in 2023 and remain in excellent condition. Below deck, Amara offers six berths across three cabins, two heads, and a bright saloon with ample seating — making her ideal for extended family cruising or long-distance passagemaking. The seaworthy galley, dedicated nav station, and generous storage further underline her ocean-going capability. Air conditioning is fitted in the saloon, providing cooling comfort in the main living space, with airflow trickling into adjacent cabins. She has been extensively upgraded with bluewater essentials, including a Paguro 4kW generator, Dessalator D60 watermaker (60 L/hr), solar charging system, Studer inverter/charger, Starlink satellite internet, and a comprehensive suite of Raymarine navigation electronics. For the adventurous, she also carries a dive compressor with tanks and an AB aluminium RIB (2022) with Suzuki 8 hp outboard, plus a complete set of spares worth over £10,000. With a versatile sail wardrobe (mainsail, genoa, asymmetric spinnaker, and storm jib), robust ground tackle, and a safety inventory including liferaft, lifejackets, and AIS MOB beacons, Amara is fully equipped and ready for her next ocean crossing.
“Glisser” has been in my ownership for 3 years. During that time, she has been modernised to current safety standards with major components replaced or fully serviced. Prior to that she was in the ownership of one family for 25 years. A new Bukh DV24 engine was fitted in 2012 with low milage since. Standing and Running rigging replaced in 2023. Electrics replaced in 2024. Lifting keel serviced with new hinge pin 2024. Upholstery and foam replaced in 2023. Her headlining was completely replaced in 2012 by an ex westerly upholsterer. The original gelcoat is in very good condition for the age of the vessel, indeed the hull polishes to a nice shine. The woodwork both inside and out is in very good shape also. She was laid up in Wilson’s yard I when I acquired her and the work was done by well-known professionals from the Chichester area. I relocated her to Laby Bee Marina in Shoreham where she has been berthed since 2024. She is a great boat with the versatility of a lifting keel allowing exploration of shallow waters and affordable moorings with the performance of a fin keel. Of Note: Lifting keel, only 1 of 6 made by Westerly. 1.0m to 1.8m draft. In one family’s ownership for 25 years and only 3 previous owners including me Well maintained throughout her life and recently modernised to comply with UK safety standard. All significant work carried out to high standard by professionals local to Hayling island.
