Description
The Witness Cat 35 was a very well respected cruising catamaran in the early days of catamarans before the cruising catamarans became such a phenomena. With only 17 ft. beam they will fit it most marina slips. Unlike most the "cruising cats" of its era, the Witness came with twin dagger boards giving it not only the ability to be beached with boards up, 2'3" draft, but amazing windward performance in deeper water with lateral resistance of slightly over 5 ft. with boards down. The down side of the original boat is that they came with a pare of under-powered 13 hp single banger diesels with high maintenance sail-drive propulsion. Well, the Homewind has had that weakness resolved with new twin 15 hp Mercury outboards professionally installed, the old engines removed and the sail-drive holes glassed in, and in the place of the old engines are twin new 15 gals each aluminum fuel tanks, giving this boat a 24 hour + power range.
Though over $100K has been expended, the down side is that this is still quite the project, life circumstances had gotten in the way of the grand plans to bring this "classic cat" back to life. While the standing rigging and spars are off, they were fully inspected, replace where necessary, repainted, re-wired, and ready to be re-install. There is a storage unit full of parts and equipment waiting for a new owner to roll up their sleeves and finish the project. The parts are there but the interior need completely reconstructed.
If you have the ability and want a cruising catamaran with new engines and rebuilt standing rigging, at a ridiculous low initial outlay then this may be just the project you are looking for. Seller looking for any offer.
