May 18, 2010This post from the respected scientists at Blogfish makes that case. Either way, news reports today that tar balls are washing up in Florida shows this is turning into far more than a regional problem. Waiting for their arrival via the Gulfstream in the Northeast. …Read More

A Challenger-Driven New AC Class?
May 18, 2010No, you can’t park it in your driveway yet, but the 19 designers who met today in Valencia put rubber on the road toward a decision on what kind of boat we’ll be racing in America’s Cup 34, monohull or multihull. Beyond the tradeoffs, priorities and passions that might pop up in any barside conversation [...] …Read More

Novothink Surge Solar iPhone iPod Charger Review
May 18, 2010Since it’s perfect for boaters and other outdoorsy folks Novothink sent me one of their solar iPod and iPhone Surge chargers to test out and review. I figured this was a good fit, considering how many times I’ve seen gadgets, gizmos, and cell phones fail due to dead batteries when a charger wasn’t close at hand, [...] …Read More

May 17, 2010I’m grateful to have America’s Cup out of the courts and moving toward, I hope, a dynamic, historic 34th match, but a new email exchange confirms that for one man, it’s not over. That would be Jaume Soler, the Spanish Olympic sailor and journalist who broke the truth about the faked-up Club Náutico Español de [...] …Read More

Charter Yacht Nero: Soundproofing Demo
May 17, 2010One of the coolest things I experienced at this month's charter yacht show in Genoa, Italy, was a demonstration of the soundproofing aboard the 295-foot motoryacht Nero. At first, I thought the stewardess was trying to impress me with a gimmick when she cranked up the music in one guest cabin, then asked me to go across the hall to the next cabin to see if I could hear any music at all. I quickly realized that the soundproofing aboard Nero is no gimmick. In fact, this yacht appears to be one of the quietest I've been aboard. I'm told that engine noise is just as minimal in the guest cabins as loud music is from one cabin to the next. You can experience the quiet for yourself by watching this two-minute video, which includes the stewardess's demonstration: …Read More

May 14, 2010"We are all very happy here," reads the email I just got from a contact at Raymarine, and that sure makes sense. The agonizing process of getting sold is over, and in the end they were bought (full announcement above here) by a strong company wh... …Read More
