FOND DU LAC, Wisc. — Nick Carter Racing, sponsored by Nick Carter of the Backstreet Boys, won the Super Vee contest at the Cape Cod Rendezvous June 8-9 in Yarmouth, Mass. Driver Bob Carter and throttleman Lee Murray averaged 61.10 mph to win the event.

The race was round three of the 2002 APBA Offshore Pro Series presented by Mercury Racing. Unseasonably cool weather with heavy rains and high winds forced race officials to run the race on a "storm course" which still produced 8-10 foot seas. Several boats sustained structural hull damage due to the rough conditions.

Media Master and Phonix took second and third place in Super Vee.

Super Cat

Super Cat National and World Champions John Tomlinson and Hugh Fuller piloted their 40-foot Skater catamaran Drambuie On Ice to win the Super Cat event. The win placed them in the lead of the Super Cat points standings.

"The water was very unpredictable—a constant 4 foot chop with 5 to 6 footers on the back stretch made the course a lot tougher," said Tomlinson. "The strong gusty winds were moving the boat around quite a bit on the outside legs, but we kept the boat tight and flying level throughout the race. We felt we had the boat set up right for this water and were looking forward to a good, competitive race.

"This was the roughest race of the year," he added. The waves were even rougher than in Daytona," he added.

Tommy Bahama and WHM Motorsports finished second and third.

Factory 1

Mark Schnepf, the 2001 Mercury Racing Russell J. Burke memorial trophy recipient, and BJ Maher piloted Activator at an average speed of 48.60 mph to win the Factory 1 event. Glenn Murray and Randy Schleuss placed second in Typhoon, Flashwave, and Patriot Offshore Racing took third.

Factory 2

Team Donzi won the Factory 2 event. R&S Offshore Racing finished second, and Snap-On Talk'n Tools took the third slot.
