POLK CITY, Fla. — Chris Parrish of Orlando, Fla., and Kristi Overton-Johnson of Keystone Heights, Fla., earned Male and Female Athlete of the Month honors for July from USA Water Ski. The skiers will now be considered for the United States Olympic Committee's Male and Female Athlete of the Month awards.
Parrish, 22, earned his first career pro tour victory in Men's slalom at the U.S. Pro Water Ski and Wakeboard Tour stop, July 27-29, in Abbotsford, British Columbia. Parrish rounded 2 buoys at 41 feet off in the final round for the victory on his way to a third-place finish in the Men?s slalom season standings.
Overton-Johnson, 31, secured her second consecutive pro tour Women's slalom season title at the U.S. Pro Water Ski and Wakeboard Tour stop in Abbotsford, British Columbia. Overton-Johnson scored 1 buoy at 39-1/2 feet off in winning her third consecutive pro tour event of the year.
"Chris and Kristi are each great athletes who exemplify what it takes to be successful at the highest levels of professional water skiing," said Steve McDermeit, USA Water Ski's executive director. "They have put in countless hours of training and preparation, and it is nice to see it pay off for them with victories against the world's best competitors."
