Dang – the Shimano guys won’t give an inch and let me tell you about the new reel we used to catch blackfin tunas today, but at least I can let you know about the new Power Pro hollow core leader rigging kit. No, they won’t let me spill the beans about the rods which will be introduced at ICAST, beyond saying that these things are lighter and thinner then anything with the same amount of power which you’ve ever fished before. (And yes, they ARE.) No, I can’t talk about the new sub-surface lures that will be coming to tackle shops this summer. All that stuff will have to wait a couple of months… stay tuned.
But in the mean time, I do have good news for guys who wish they could splice their own leaders with Power Pro. There’s a new kit that comes with all the line, rigging needles, glue, floss, and information you need to make the line to leader splice, without any knots or loops. The best part? The knowledge, of course – the kit has a DVD with full instructions on how to make the connections. Here’s what it looks like:

The kit has somewhat limited availability, but you can find a listing of dealers who have it at www.powerpro.com. And it’s not exactly cheap, at $99. But considering the fact that the same amount of dough only gets you five wind-ons, and after using the kit you’ll have the tools and know how to make your own for eternity, it’s a reasonable deal. Hmmm… aren’t I going to talk about today’s fishing out of Key West, and maybe give a tip or two on how to nail those blackfin and grouper? Don’t worry, that’ll happen in the next few days…
