Powerboat Magazine Redesigned
Leading high-performance boating publication gets new look.
VENTURA, Calif. — "Powerboat magazine is on the move and charging at full throttle. And I am excited," said Powerboat publisher Jerry Nordskog in his November/December issue column. "We have redesigned our magazine and we have a different look, a new beginning as we conclude 2004 and prepare for the years ahead."
Powerboat magazine has completely revitalized itself from cover to cover and everywhere in between. The new design includes a new, larger size, which is nearly 1 inch wider than previous issues. Researched and developed for nearly a year, the redesign was the master work of Powerboat's art director, Robbie Destocki.
"Twelve years has passed since we gave the magazine any real change," Destocki said. "We have always tweaked our departments and our performance reports over the years, but I felt it was time for a major facelift."
One look at the new product will tell you it was much more than a facelift. The redesign also includes a new logo, new fonts throughout and subtle tweaks to the editorial content. The redesign also capitalizes on Powerboat's strengths.
"When I sat down and approached this redesign, I tried to put myself in the position of the subscriber or potential newsstand buyer," he continued. "In doing so, I thought one of the strongest graphic aspects of this magazine has always been the outstanding photography, which I feel no other marine publication can match. Our photographers always come back with so much outstanding work it's sometimes a challenge to photo edit each story. Photography was the building-block for the redesign.
"I felt the best way to showcase our award-winning photography was to increase the size of the magazine," Destocki said. "With the support of our entire staff, the backing of our publisher and help from our new printer RR Donnelly, we increased the size of our magazine from 8 1/8 inches wide to 9 inches. I hope our readers, advertisers and newsstand distributors will be pleased with the end result."
Based in Ventura, Calif., Powerboat magazine has been publishing for 36 years. The magazine produces 11 issues a year and has more than 50,000 readers.
