Dometic DG3 Gyrostabilizer: A Game-Changer at MIBS 2025
The Dometic DG3 redefines marine stabilization with speed, efficiency, and award-winning innovation.
The 2025 Miami International Boat Show (MIBS) brought forth a wave of innovation in the marine industry, and among the standout products was the Dometic DG3 Gyrostabilizer. This cutting-edge system not only claimed the prestigious 2025 Miami Innovation Award in the category of Mechanical & Electrical Systems but also redefined expectations for marine stabilization. During the show, I had the opportunity to experience the DG3 firsthand on a 37-foot SeaHunter with triple 300-horsepower Suzuki outboards, and the results were nothing short of remarkable.

Sea Trial Demo: Testing Performance and Innovation on the Water
Our test run began at the show docks, heading out from the Miami Beach Convention Center through the bustling waters of Biscayne Bay. The journey took us under the West Venetian Causeway Bridge and MacArthur Causeway, past the superyachts docked at Island Gardens Marina and the massive cruise ships at the Port of Miami on Dodge Island. We navigated by Brickell Key, under the Rickenbacker Causeway, and finally into the open Bay west of Virginia Key and Key Biscayne, a well-known testing ground for marine journalists and boat manufacturers alike.
With moderate chop providing ideal conditions for a stabilization test, the captain deliberately positioned the boat so we were taking waves on the beam, causing noticeable rolling. Then, with the flick of a switch, the DG3 engaged, and the rolling stopped instantly. The contrast was staggering—without stabilization, the movement was pronounced, but with the DG3 activated, the boat rode smooth and level.

Why the DG3 Stands Out
The DG3 isn’t just another gyrostabilizer—it’s a technological leap forward in vessel stability. Notably, the DG3 achieves full operational speed significantly faster than competing systems, enhancing its readiness and efficiency. Compared to competitors, it boasts an exceptionally fast spin-up time, reaching full operational speed 65% faster than previous systems. While traditional marine gyrostabilizers can take nearly an hour to fully engage, the DG3 is ready in just 16 minutes.
Equally impressive is the DG3's rapid spool-down time, shutting down completely in just 20 minutes, compared to the industry standard of several hours—that's up to 15 times faster that the 8 hours of many current systems. Dometic attains these industry-leading spin-up and spin-down times by utilizing a dedicated 48V lithium battery for spin-up, paired with a larger flywheel that generates the necessary angular momentum while operating at a slower 4,700 RPM.
Another key differentiator is the smart stabilization technology. Unlike many systems that resist boat maneuvers, the DG3 features an intelligent processor that automatically eases stabilization when the boat is turning, ensuring that the system doesn’t interfere with handling. Once the turn is complete, stabilization is immediately re-engaged, allowing for a seamless and intuitive boating experience.
Additionally, Dometic’s fully electric design eliminates the need for hydraulic components, reducing maintenance concerns such as fluid leaks and pressure loss. Unlike other stabilizers that rely on hydraulic damping to control the hemisphere, the DG3 utilizes Roller Screw technology ensuring precise and dynamic control while enhancing energy efficiency and enabling Dometic to actively manage flywheel precession. The energy stored in the spinning flywheel is reclaimed during spin-down through a custom-engineered motor controller, which recharges the system’s dedicated battery. This proprietary system also harnesses the push-pull forces on the ram to recover energy and generate electrical current. In fact, this system is 40% more energy-efficient than comparable gyrostabilizers on the market today.
Overall, the DG3 Gyrostabilizer offers a compact design that seamlessly integrates into vessels ranging from 35 to 41 feet. Its reversible mounting feet facilitate straightforward installation, making it adaptable for different engine room layouts. The DG3's rapid engagement, combined with its energy-efficient operation, positions the DG3 as a leading choice for boaters seeking advanced stabilization solutions.

A Versatile and User-Friendly System
Dometic has engineered the DG3 to be a drop-in replacement for similarly sized stabilizers, making it an attractive option for boat manufacturers and retrofitters alike. With adjustable mounting feet, it easily fits into a wide range of vessels, specifically those in the 35- to 41-foot range. Compatibility with 12-, 24-, and 48-volt battery systems further enhances its appeal.
Back at the docks, we witnessed another intriguing feature—Party Mode. This unique setting intentionally rocks the boat back and forth, demonstrating the raw power of the DG3. With the push of a button, the stabilizer immediately counteracted the movement, proving once again the system’s exceptional responsiveness.
Industry Recognition & Market Expansion
Dometic’s entry into the marine gyrostabilizer market with the DG3 is a strategic move backed by extensive research and development. Winning the Miami Innovation Award solidifies its position as a groundbreaking product that is already attracting interest from global boatbuilders. The first customer announcement of new boats featuring the DG3 as an option took place at MIBS 2025, signaling rapid adoption within the industry.
Dometic Marine Segment President Eric Fetchko emphasized the company’s commitment to innovation, stating, “We’re not just launching a new product, we’re taking Dometic into an important new category for the global boating business. This introduction exemplifies our ability to apply our revolutionary Inverted Roller Screw technology in new ways for the benefit of boaters worldwide.”
