Northern Airborne Technology has introduced a new model in its series of combination GPS/EPIRB devices. The GPIRB-II is significantly smaller and lighter than its predecessor, yet it delivers equal performance in distress transmissions and has an Xenon strobe light.

Use of a GPIRB has been proven to be accurate enough to reduce the search area of a boat or person in distress by nearly 99.975 percent over regular EPIRB units, letting help get to you faster. The GPIRB-II comes in Category 1 (automatic free float) and Category 2 (manual release) models, and it features a five-year lithium battery.

Category 1 models sell for $2,500; Category 2 models sell for $2,078.
