September 11, 2003
Opal Marine will launch three new boats at this year's Southampton Boat Show: the Legend 36, 41 and 44.
Legend 36
The new Legend 36 is a development of the Legend 356 that has already become popular with European yachtsmen. In addition to the yachts superb sailing characteristics the interior has been designed to offer practicality and comfort.
The two-cabin layout is bright and spacious for a 36 footer. Interior comforts are provided by a large saloon area, sea-going galley, separate heads/shower compartment and efficient navigation station. A lacquer finish is applied to all interior teak and there is exceptional stowage throughout. The cockpit also incorporates full depth lockers for sails, inflatable dinghy or liferaft.
The spirited sailing performance of the Legend 36 is assisted by the latest underwater foil shapes of the keel and balanced spade rudder, combined with the yacht's efficient hull lines and a powerful sail plan. The keel options will be a bulb wing, deep lead fin, or twin keel configurations. The easily manageable B & R rig incorporates a large, fully battened mainsail, mast struts and an innovative cockpit arch which carries the mainsheet arrangement, freeing clutter from the cockpit sole and providing more space for crew or family.
The production 36 will be built at the Luhrs Marine, European manufacturing facility in Portland, Dorset.

Legend 41
Built in the USA with distinctive European styling, the 41 has an innovative design which produces more spacious accommodation than similar boats of this length. Considerable care has been taken in the layout of the interior to make efficient use of every spare corner. The fore cabin head has been built into the forward section of the cabin to allow full use of the beam for the main cabin area. The owner's aft cabin also has its own ensuite head and shower, while the bright main saloon is comfortably appointed with superb 1.98m headroom adding to the spacious feel.
The cockpit has also received careful attention to layout.? The primary winches have been positioned either side of the helm for easy short handed sailing while the extra wide stern rail seats offer the comfortable and social cruising that is a tradition of all Legend yachts. The unique rig arrangements place the mainsheet on the overhead arch that leaves the cockpit clear and safe for the rest of the family. This simple mainsail handling allows the helmsman to get the best out of this powerful 41 footer and enjoy sparkling sailing and fast passage making.
As an addition to safety provisions the Legend 41 will be fitted with an automatic engine fire extinguisher, smoke and fume defectors and high water bilge pump alarms.

In addition to its excellent performance, the new Legend 44 offers superior amenities and comfort in the accommodation areas. A unique forward stateroom layout features a Pullman style double berth providing plenty of space and stowage. The salon is full beam and allows for entertaining and dining in grand style. The wide beam being carried well aft also enhances the master stateroom. Inner spring mattresses are standard and the finely finished teak interior and cabinetry are first-class. Upgraded hardware and fabrics make a significant difference to the luxury feel of the yacht's interior.
Like its sister yacht the 41, the 44 benefits from the unique Legend rig which is simple to use and highly efficient, making this an ideal yacht for safe family sailing.
