B&G Remote Vision: Wireless Control To Revolutionize Sailing
B&G RemoteVision
Simrad in the UK is launching the B&G RemoteVision at Southampton International Boat Show 2004. RemoteVision is a unique new handheld wireless information and control device designed to work in conjunction with the B&G h2000 range of autopilots and instruments. It has been designed to free the sailor from the constraints of traditional systems, and can offer access to control and information from absolutely anywhere onboard.
RemoteVision has been in development for over two years and B&G's answer to providing complete freedom for sailors is now ready to show the sailing world what it can do. Record breaking sailors Mike Golding and Ellen MacArthur assisted in the design and testing of RemoteVision helping to make it an essential system for any serious racing or cruising yacht that uses B&G's h2000 systems.
Mike Golding, winner of the 2004 Open 60 Monohull division of Transat says; "The B&G RemoteVision is especially beneficial to solo racers like myself and Ellen as it can provide wireless instrumental information. I really enjoyed testing the RemoteVision, which I was involved in before the Transat. I am also looking forward to having it onboard for the Vendee Globe, which starts on November 5th 2004."
RemoteVision is smaller than a palm PC and features a full LCD graphical screen and simple 5-button control. It utilises wireless technology to instantly send and receive signals from B&G's h2000 Hercules and Hydra pilots and instruments.
All autopilot and instrument system parameters can be viewed and changed using RemoteVision from anywhere on a vessel. It also features an integral 20 degree gimballed fluxgate compass for providing instant, accurate bearings on any point.
"I've been using RemoteVision for a couple of months already and am very impressed by the freedom it gives me," comments Ellen MacArthur after RemoteVision sea trials onboard her new yacht, B&Q. "This is something that we've needed for a long time so I was happy to assist B&G during the design and testing stages but am even happier to have a complete system up and running on B&Q."
Whilst performance is improved through RemoteVision's ability to provide users with full control and access to all instrument data, one of the most outstanding safety features is the alarm answer mode. If the Hercules or Hydra system senses that the vessel is heading off course, for instance at night whilst the crew are below decks, or in rough conditions, the controller can be used to answer alarms and set pilot parameters without having to actually be at the instruments.
"The launch of RemoteVision takes B&G h2000 systems to the next level. It is the only wireless system available that can offer complete control and information for autopilot and instruments from anywhere on a yacht. It provides benefits in performance, safety and accessibility, making it a system that racers and cruisers will reap great rewards from," comments Richard Acland, Managing Director B&G.
Simrad Ltd will be displaying RemoteVision alongside other Simrad and B&G systems on the Simrad stand (G069) at Southampton International Boat Show 2004.
RemoteVision is also fitted to Joie de Vivre - J Boat (J109) berthed at the marina during the show.
