BALANCE 482: SHE’S DESIGNED FOR CRUISERS UNWILLING TO SACRIFICE SPEED Our trend setting circumnavigator was awarded Best Multihull by Sailing World and Best Performance Catamaran by Cruising World in 2022. She’s a scaled down version of our famous Balance 526, winner of the Cape to Rio race in 2023. With her carbon reinforced foam core hulls, dual daggerboards, and powerful sail plan the 482 is a sheer pleasure to sail. She ghosts along in the lightest of breezes while others are burning diesel. Upwind she points high, with little leeway, in the 7 to 10 knot range with her high aspect daggerboards. Reaching she blasts along between 8 and 14 knots with ease. SPEED AND EASE OF OPERATION The 482 is fast, but how does she balance the need for speed with the reality of single-handed sailing? Her self-tending blade jib makes tacking a simple matter of turning over the helm. All of her reefing and sail management takes place at the upper helm station. With her dual furling headsails, electric winches, and mainsheet system that operates without a traveler, her ease of sailing is remarkable.
