Description
THE EXPERT’S VIEW
VARNEBANK is a bespoke North Sea Trawler expedition yacht. A platform created for capable owner/operators who prefer confidence and reliable independence at sea. Built by Van der Molen in the Netherlands for the North Sea fisheries, she was converted to yacht standards in Holland during a comprehensive refit overseen by Floor Kersten from 2004 to 2007. The exterior and naval architecture are by Pieter Beeldsnijder Design. Interior by Luro Enkhuizen. The 3-year conversion encompassed stripping all machinery, electronics, plumbing, wiring and interior spaces, leaving only the steel hull and superstructure. Hull plating above and below the waterline was replaced as necessary. The pilothouse was replaced with aluminum to reduce weight. The interior was built in steel and finished with select cherry and mahogany woods throughout. For owners seeking autonomy who appreciate a proven offshore voyager, VARENEBANK is a worthy consideration. A Marad Waiver remains with the yacht.
Comments and Noteworthy Features
VARNEBANK is a custom-built one-off Dutch expedition yacht. Originally built as a North Sea Trawler she was extensively refit from a bare hull to yacht specifications in the Netherlands during a 3-year project overseen by Floor Kersten. The yacht has proven to be easily handled by a couple and is capable of long uninterrupted voyages due to her large fuel capacity and economical single diesel. Her classic Dutch Old-World interior is delightful with off-white Herreshoff-style tongue and groove ceilings / cross beams throughout, with leather covered seating in the main salon and pilothouse all surrounded by warm cherrywood and mahogany wood joinery.
• Strong and capable world explorer utilizing economy and safety for extended passages
• Distinctive design
• Easily handled by a couple/short crew
• Marad Waiver which authorizes legal chartering on a foreign hull
