LOCATION: THE MARINA AT HAMPTON COVE, VANCOUVER, BRITISH COLUMBIA CANADA
Grenfell Yachts built a very limited number of these hand-crafted West Coast cruisers in Vancouver during the 1960s, and today they are regarded as rare examples of classic Canadian yacht craftsmanship. Constructed with beautiful mahogany lapstrake planking, bent oak frames, and elegant teak detailing throughout, the 40’ Grenfell blends traditional styling with solid offshore capability. These vessels were designed for comfortable coastal cruising with generous beam, safe side decks, and a practical two-cabin layout ideal for family use or extended time aboard.
NAUTI GAL IV is powered by twin MerCruiser 350HP gas engines (700HP total) on stern drives, offering impressive performance for a classic 40-footer. She gets up on plane easily and delivers confident handling underway. The port engine has seen extensive recent mechanical upgrades including rebuilt internals (approx. 300 hours ago), new exhaust manifolds and risers, new 150-amp alternator charging the house bank, new starter, new fuel pump, new custom wiring harness, new billet HEI distributor, and a rebuilt Holley 750 marine carburetor. Both engines received new plugs and wires last season along with new starting batteries. Engine care has been meticulous, with consistent seasonal oil changes and documented servicing. Importantly, there is no fuel smell in the cabin — a testament to proper maintenance and fuel system integrity.
This 1965 Grenfell 40’ represents a rare opportunity to own a true West Coast classic with modernized mechanical reliability and strong performance. She offers the charm and warmth of a vintage wooden yacht while delivering the power to cruise efficiently and comfortably. With her spacious two-cabin layout, generous tankage, and substantial beam, NAUTI GAL IV is well-suited for local cruising, weekend getaways, or extended time on the water. A distinctive and capable classic that turns heads in every harbour.
