Description

Historic Race-Boat: 1971 Cowes-Torquay-Cowes participant.

One owner in period and since then only in one family to date.

Built by W A Souter & Sons in Cowes Isle of Wight using their famed cold-moulded technique to a Ray Hunt design for Mr William Govett.

W A Souter & Sons developed their cold-moulding technique and this boat, Laksfors III, is an excellent example of this type of construction, being well suited to one-off commissions/manufacture.

Laksfors III took part in the 1971 Cowes-Torquay-Cowes powerboat race powered by two 325 Mercruiser engines.

Subsequently sold into the present family and lightly used at weekends and family holidays.  The Owner and Vendor grew up on this boat and took Ownership upon the passing of his father.

The final touches are being applied after a lay-off so this will be a turn-key opportunity after the sea trial which will be videoed.  (The Broker took videos in August 2024 for the start-up of each engine and the powered engine hatch).

Powered by twin 6 cylinder Yanmar turbo-charged diesel engines driving RTS drive-legs:
Laksfors III has only done about 345 hours since major over-haul of each engine.

Please contact the Broker to discuss this rare opportunity.

Broker's Comments

In the 'golden years' era of British power-boats there were several yards making production twin-engined power-boats.  For discerning clients, W A Souter made not only race-winning boats but also finished them to very high standards.

Lakfors III is one such power-boat - more 'Bentley' than 'Jaguar' in car terms.

Viewed by the Broker at the end of September as the Owner continues to put the finishing touches after a lay-off, this Ray Hunt design is well-known in the classic boat fraternity.

Purchased by the Owner's father in 1984, much recent work and affection has been lavished on this craft, now powered by twin Yanmar straight 6 cylinder turbo diesel engines of 315 hp each.  (That compares with the original two 325 hp V8 petrol Mercruiser installations when raced in 1971).
