Description
1978 CIGARETTE 36 – 1 OF 5 – TWIN 540 V8s BY LEGENDARY KEITH EICKERT – SPEEDMASTER 3A DRIVES – LEFT-SIDE HELM – TURN-KEY – TRI-AXLE ALUMINUM TRAILER – PROFESSIONALLY MAINTAINED ENGINE BY ENTEC MARINE – VERIFIED HISTORY – TRUE OFFSHORE COLLECTOR ICON
Step aboard “Girl Scout,” a legendary 1978 Cigarette 36 — one of only five from that year produced by Donald Aronow, the iconic designer behind Cigarette Racing. Built for big water and high-speed offshore performance, this boat represents a rare and historic opportunity for serious collectors and enthusiasts.
Originally owned by Gil Lieber, a known offshore racer and partner of famed engine builder Keith Eickert, this boat carries offshore history within. It’s outfitted with twin 540 cubic inch V8s, custom-built by Eickert himself — a name synonymous with championship offshore performance. The engines are paired with Speedmaster 3A surface drives, and the boat features a unique left-hand helm configuration (a nod to Gil), while Keith’s identical setup featured a right-hand drive, designed so the two could race side-by-side from what records show.
The engines have very low hours (< 30) since their most recent refresh, Mechanically, its engines have been maintained to the highest standards by Entec Marine in Toronto, with extensive records and receipts available to support its open-chequebook history. It has been freshwater-kept throughout its life and reportedly runs a true 75 MPH, performing exactly as a heritage Cigarette should.
The cabin features upholstered full-length pads for sleeping or lounging, a mini fridge, sink, and a privacy area with additional padded sleeping space — practical amenities for day runs or overnight stays. Though original, the helm station is functional, with an opportunity for the next owner to upgrade gauges and switchgear to suit their taste.
Included with the boat is a aluminum tri-axle trailer and photographic documentation supporting the boat’s provenance and its connection to Gil Lieber and Keith Eickert. Community recognition from forums and other collectors helps reinforce its historic standing.
“Girl Scout” is more than just a classic offshore performance boat — it’s a rolling tribute to Cigarette Racing heritage, Aronow’s design brilliance, and a bygone era of hands-on, high-speed, big-water boating.
