Description
The Niigata 45m is an expedition yacht that effortlessly combines contemporary luxury with serious exploration capabilities. Originally launched by Japan’s Niigata Shipyard, she was extensively refitted in 2023/24 to transform into a specialised expedition vessel, ideal for remote cruising.
The exterior was designed by Periscope Naval Architects, with interiors by Ashley Sutton Design and naval architecture by the original builders, Niigata Shipyard. With a robust, seaworthy build and accommodation for up to 13 guests across five cabins, she’s perfectly suited to adventurous owners seeking comfort without compromise.
Exterior & Outdoor Living
Aft Deck
The yacht’s long aft deck—typical of expedition vessels—features relaxed bean bag seating, ideal for unwinding with unobstructed views. This area also serves as a practical operations zone, equipped with a crane for launching and retrieving tenders and gear, along with direct access to the swim platform at the water’s edge.
Sun Deck & Helipad
The versatile sun deck offers sun beds for lounging, along with an al fresco dining setup shaded by large umbrellas. A semi-enclosed bar area, complete with stools and a lounge space, sits beneath a hard roof that doubles as a helipad, offering unique operational flexibility in remote cruising grounds.
Forecastle Deck
This sociable upper deck features two L-shaped lounge areas aft—perfect for informal gatherings—while forward lies a dining space with multiple table arrangements. Far forward on this deck are the wheelhouse and captain’s quarters.
Interior
Main Salon
Located on the main deck, the spacious salon is designed with functionality and comfort in mind. Large windows flood the space with natural light, while ample seating creates a welcoming environment for relaxation or socialising. Aft of the salon, a formal dining area accommodates up to eight guests.
Accommodation
Five well-appointed guest cabins are located on the main deck with access out to the large aft deck. These include two double cabins and three double cabins with an additional single bunk.
Performance & Technology
With a steel hull and aluminium superstructure, this expedition yacht offers robust seakeeping, ideal for long-range cruising. She is powered by twin Niigata Power Systems Co., Ltd. engines, delivering a top speed of 14 knots and a cruising speed of 10-12 knots.
With a fuel capacity of 74,250 litres, she’s capable of extended voyages without the need for frequent resupply.
Outfitted with military-grade equipment throughout, her performance has been further enhanced by significant upgrades, including the addition of 18 tonnes of steel to the keel for improved stability.
