Moody 64: Flagship Debut
Moody 64 debuts at Southampton
Moody Yachts has a new flagship, the Moody 64, debuting at the Southampton Boat Show this September. The hull design is by Dixon Yacht Design, Bill Dixon has drawn lines for Moody for their 54' and 38' models, his design firm also drew the Taswell 60, 58, 49 and 43 and a number of custom cruisers in the 55' to 65' range.
The new 64 is a centre-cockpit bluewater cruiser with a tall, high-aspect ratio cutter rig, featuring hydraulically powered furling with a self-taking staysail.
Despite its size, the 64 is designed for shorthanded sailing by a couple, with sail control and deck handling systems powered and controlled from the cockpit. There are twin steering wheels, padded helm seats and integrated instrument and engine consoles. Standard equipment includes a 15 hp bow thruster, chart plotter and generator.
Moody is a 150 year old family business located in the heart of south England's boating industry: the river Hamble. Their range of products includes custom yachts, production cruisers, and Ministry of Defence vessels, along with full boatyard and marina services. Their reputation for sensibly-priced cruisers has made for a long waiting line for their 47 and 54, doubtless they believe that some prospective 54 customers will take a good look at the 64.
