The dual console design is ideal for many boaters, and those looking for a really, really big one will be thrilled to discover there’s a new Grady-White Freedom 415 hitting the water. Like most dual consoles it provides an excellent mix of fishability, family boating features, and overall comfort, and it’s bound to make the short list of anyone looking for this type of boat.

Grady-White Freedom 415 Design

At its core the Freedom 415 has a standard dual console design, with a helm to starboard and a passenger’s side console to port, but due to its sheer size it adds up to a very different feel; note that this isn’t just the largest dual console in Grady-White’s lineup, but the builder says it’s also the largest outboard-powered dual console ever built. The size matters, and (when the windows and sunroof are closed up) being on the helm deck feels more like being inside of a cabin than being on an open day boat.

The windshield reaches all the way to the hard top and stretches back to shield the entire helm deck. One of the reasons family boaters like dual consoles is that they keep wind, rain, and spray off of the family and in this case the level of shelter and comfort on the helm deck is 100-percent. Naturally, the entire area is also air-conditioned.

The helm station has room for two individual electrically adjustable flip-up bolster chairs, and sitting behind it is a triple-wide aft-facing seat with fold-down arm rests and stowage underneath. The passenger’s side boasts a dinette-style arrangement with two triple-wide facing seats and a pair of electrically actuated teak tables in-between. On the back side of the aft seat a summer kitchen is incorporated with an electric grill, a sink, a refrigerator, and stowage drawers.

Each console houses a cabin, with a dedicated head enclosure to starboard and a berth, microwave oven, TV, fold-down table, and cabinetry in the passenger’s side console. The cockpit is the boat’s fishing territory, and the bow cockpit is dedicated to outdoors socializing with a twist. The port-starboard lounge seating is there as expected, but the center inserts are electrically actuated and can rise up to form a pair of teak dinette tables.

Grady-White Freedom 415 Construction

Sporting Grady-White’s trademark SeaV2 variable-degree deadrise hullform, the Freedom 415 is structured like others in the model line with a completely composite stringer system and transom, a hand-laid hull and deck, and 316-grade stainless-steel fasteners and fittings. Deck hardware is through-bolted, not screwed down. There’s a nice level of tech to be found in the way the boat is built, including CZone digital switching, Zipwakes dynamic trim control, and the incorporation of Yamaha Siren Marine remote vessel monitoring. Just about everything that can be electrified is, from the adjustable tables and seats, to the sunroof in the hard top, to the retractable washdown hoses. Add-ons are numerous, too, including such goodies as an inductive wireless cell phone charger at the helm, 10 different USB ports, and even Seakeeper gyroscopic stabilization — all included as standard features.

Grady-White Freedom 415 Comfort Features

Aside from the air-conditioned helm deck and cabins, there are plenty of additional features that will keep the spouse and kids smiling from ear to ear every moment they’re aboard. The Bluetooth stereo system includes two subwoofers and eight speakers with LED lights, there are convertible shade systems for both fore and aft cockpits, and a grand total of 25 cupholders are placed throughout the boat. Also note that the Freedom 415 has an 11-gallon hot water heater which is plumbed to the transom shower as well as the head shower, so after a dip in the bay you can rinse off with decadent warmth. Even getting onto and off of the boat will be easier and more pleasant than usual, thanks to doors on both sides of the cockpit. And everyone will love having the gyro system, which makes rocking and rolling a thing of the past.

Grady-White Freedom 415 Fishing Features

Anglers concerned that the emphasis on comfort might lead to sub-par fishing features need not worry. From the helm deck back the Freedom 415 is laid out exactly like Grady-White’s Canyon 456 Center Console, with 35-gallon livewells flanking a huge 115-gallon fishbox that doubles as a refrigerator/freezer with a digitally controlled thermostat. The hard top has outrigger plates (22’ Gemlux carbon fiber outriggers are one of the few add-ons appearing on the optional features list), four side-mounted rocket launchers, and a litany of spreader and courtesy lights. Raw and freshwater washdowns, coaming bolsters, blue underwater lights, four flush-mount rodholders, and hanging racks for four more rods round out the angling accouterments.

Most people think of dual consoles as day boats or runabouts, and for the most part, that’s exactly what they are. But with sheer size and a healthy dose of luxury feature the Freedom 415 goes well beyond the norm. Truth be told, as we lounged on the helm deck and probed the cabin, it didn’t take long to figure out that this boat has everything you need for weekending aboard, from the cabin with berths, to the head, to the food-prep areas. So, thanks to that huge footprint and everything Grady-White is able to add in as a result, while it may be “proper” to call the Freedom 415 a dual console, this boat is really a cruiser of sorts, too. If you’ve always liked the dual console design, fishing, and taking out the family — but you also wanted something more out of your boat — this is a model you’ll want to see.
