Description
Embark on a voyage through cinematic history and maritime legend aboard the 1934 85' Pankey Schooner Destiny. This, 85-foot staysail schooner is more than a vesselāshe's a timeless work of art and craftsmanship, with a storied past intertwined with Hollywood royalty and naval history. Once the proud possession of iconic figures like writer-director Academy Award winner Preston Sturges and the enigmatic Hollywood and aviation industry mogul Howard Hughes, this graceful wooden ship has cruised the seas alongside legends such as Humphrey Bogart and John Wayne. Destiny was extensively refitted between 2008 to 2011, and again with the current owners from mid 2020 to 2024. Areas of the refit included replacement of hull planking and fasteners as need, new main and mizzen masts, standing and running rigging, wiring, batteries, plumbing, addition of solar panels, and all new Andersen self-tailing sheeting, halyard, mainsheet and utility winches. Additional information on the refits is available upon request. No expense was spared during both refits to ensure she retains her soul and character while meeting modern standards of comfort and safety. Her rich past is visible in every detailāfrom her classic lines to the carvings left by US Navy sailors during her time as a scout boat in World War II. This classic schooner offers a unique experience, blending performance sailing with a striking sense of history. Her graceful motion provides sea kindly stability when the breeze picks up, ensuring a comfortable and tranquil journey. Whether you are a seasoned sailor or new to the experience, Destiny provides an unparalleled opportunity for you to become part of history and her living legacy on the open water.
