Description
Classic Swan owned by the same knowledgeable yachtsman since 1987 and in very nice shape today--new mast and staing rigging about 10 years ago, over $50,000 in KKMI receipts over the past five years or so, plus all new teak decks in 2021! Lying in a potentially transferable Brickyard Cove slip in the "Richmond Riviera".Â
Accommodations and Layout
Forepeak forward with V berth, hanging locker, extra large hatch overhead, and access to the spacious head with manual pump toilet and shower wand. Note that this entire forward area can be shut off from the rest of the boat with a solid privacy door.
Step aft to salon with straight settees with pilot berths port and starboard, double drop leaf table centerline.Â
Continue aft to very functional U shaped galley port side, centerline companionway up to the bridgedeck, and a big nav table starboard with second stateroom far aft of that.
Second stateroom has a double berth port side with a built in little seat and pass-thru into the galley, single berth across to starboard.
Note lovely solid Burmese teak joinery in fine shape throughout the vessel--you just won't find better craftsmanship than on these classic Swans! 6' 3 headroom.
Galley and Head
Double stainless steel sinks with hot/cold pressure water and salt/fresh \water foot pumps, three burner Eno stove with oven, large ice box. Manual pump toilet, handheld wand shower.
Electrical
110V AC / 12V DC. Thirty amp shorepower service, Statpower True Charge 20 amp three stage battery charger, four Group 29 wet cell batteries in two banks with parallel switch.
Electronics
Raymarine E80 chartplotter, Furuno radar, Robertson AP200 DL autopilot, B&G depth sounder with repeater, B&G wind speed/direction indicator, B&G knot meter with repeater, Raymarine Ray 240 VHF radio, VDO ships clock, Schatz barometer. JVC AM/FM/CD stereo.
Sails and Rigging
Masthead rig sloop with Selden two piece aluminum double spreader keel stepped mast with rod and wire standing rigging (Navtec rod on headstay, backstay & uppers, 1X19 wire on lowers and intermediates), aluminum boom with dacron full batten mainsail, rigid boomvang and mainsheet with traveller, Reckman roller furler with #120 jib, two other head sails reportedly at owners home. All winches are Lewmar--two #55 self tailing, two #48 self tailing, four # 43, two #40, two #34 self tailing.
The Selden mast was reportedly installed about 10 years ago at which time the standing rigging was also renewed, mast base and step serviced in late 2023.
Deck and Hull
The Swan 431 is based on Swans very successful 43 and 44, and features an improved double spreader rig and beamier hull, offering better performance and more interior volume. The 431 was only built for two years, (due to Nautor switching designers from S & S to Ron Holland) but 32 hulls were launched during that short time frame (Swank i sreportedly Hull #22) and the design was considered a success.
Single skin hand laid FRP construction using an interior steel grid which ties together hull and keel to provide additional support and strength, external lead keel attached with stainless steel keel bolts, skeg hung rudder, and glued teak decks (new in 2021) over a divinycell core with stainless steel backing plates in stress areas.
Engine and Machinery
Perkins 4-108 four cylinder fuel injected fresh water cooled naturally aspirated diesel engine, 1 1/4" stailess steel shaft thru dripless stuffing box to two bladed feathering Max Prop. Engine hours are unknow as it's not equpped with an hour mter.
