Description
The Shannon 51 Aegean ketch best exemplifies the laser focus of Walter Schulz's designs and
Shannon Boat Company's craftsmanship to create the ultimate bluewater passagemakers. This Aegean 51, "Conmara*", is exceptionally strong and intended for world cruising/living aboard with comfort, safety and speed. Valued design features include a pilothouse with a forward hydraulic helm station, a second independent hydraulic arm for the Garmin Auto Pilot steering, an aft cable helm station and a sea-kindly hull shape with shoal draft 5'9" keel centerboard hull, and full skeg protection for the rudder (4 blade propeller is in aperture between the skeg and rudder). All sails can be furled from the deep comfortable cockpit including self-tending club staysail, electric furling genoa, mizzen, spinnaker and electric stoway mainsail. The versatile ketch sail plan also facilitates shorthanded sailing and at 64' tall is ICW friendly. "Conmara's" luxurious interior with light oak and teak trim is exceptionally well finished and in great condition. The cabin soles are solid varnished teak and holly. The galley adjacent to the companionway is well configured for cooking offshore and liveaboard.
The current owner has continually upgraded and replaced equipment – a listing of all upgrades follows at the end of this description. The entire deck and hull have recently been repainted and the exterior of "Conmara" looks as good as the day Shannon launched her. The current condition of "Con Mara" is magnificent. As the owner recounted for me all the projects that he had recently completed to get the boat perfect, I asked him why he was selling "Conmara". He honestly replied he was not sure. As I walked down the dock I looked back and realized he was selling "Conmara" because there was nothing left for him to do on his work list nor for his sailing goals. The new owners of "Conmara" will be the beneficiaries of the current owner's diligence and devotion to his Shannon Aegean 51 over the last 12 years. With current boatyard labor rates of $150+ per hour it would cost more than twice the asking price of "Conmara" to upgrade the average 50' quality cruising yacht like a Hinckley, Alden or Swan into the current condition of "Conmara"

Interior Accommodations
"Conmara" is one of the highly regarded Shannon 51 Aegean center cockpit models with pilothouse enclosure forward of the cockpit and spacious interior arrangement. The interior fit and finish reflects Shannon's devotion to quality and tradition. Bulkheads are finished with light oak stavings and varnished teak trim. Headliners are off white classic style and the hull ceilings are hand-picked mahogany. Soles are varnished teak with contrasting holly. A total of eighteen bronze opening ports and multiple dorades combined with five Shannon-style deck hatches provide abundant light and ventilation. The aft master features a centerline queen berth with ensuite head and separate shower. Storage includes bureau to starboard, drawers at the head of the berth, and multiple lockers. Deck hatches, opening ports, and dorades provide light and ventilation and a second companionway entry leads to the cockpit. A passageway forward of the master stateroom and aft of the nav center has tall doors on the inboard side providing excellent access to the engine, mechanical and electrical systems. The impressive breaker panels are forward of the doors on the inboard side of the passageway which has a long counter with freezer and provisions for mounting a bench vise on the counter. The athwartship galley is to starboard of the main companionway entry and includes double stainless sinks, refrigeration system, designer faucets and mixing valves, three burner LPG stove in stainless with oven, microwave, and abundant counter space and storage. Adjacent to the galley to port is a proper navigation center with wide table hinged to access storage under, electronics console, and cabinets. A storage/pantry is immediately aft of the galley to starboard and could be easily converted back to berths to serve as an ideal crew cabin. Amidships is the main salon that includes two comfortable settees with a double leaf dining table to starboard. Forward of the main salon is the guest head and separate stall shower (on opposite sides of the passageway). Two doors to the head provide direct access from the forward cabin and second door to the main salon. The forward cabin includes a large V-style berth, deck hatches and opening ports and abundant stowage.
The hull, deck and masts are Awlgrip painted.
