Description
What an amazing boat to have here at Fox's! A 'must see' vessel!
Whether for Blue Water cruising, cross-channel adventures or simply sailing locally in a vessel designed to get you home, Silver Y makes for a very competent yacht. With her bow thruster and longer keel the canals of France and a trip to the Med would make a great getaway.
Designed by Chuck Paine, Bowman 40’s have a widespread reputation as excellent sea-going boats, with a superb motion, 7.5 knot hull speed and a capsize ratio under 1.8 making them a prime choice for those looking at long-distance and Blue Water cruising. They do not come to market very often because owners tend to keep them. This boat is only available because of injury to the owner, who has invested significantly in preparing her for ocean voyages,
Built in 1988, this strongly rigged cutter has had many upgrades including a new mast and boom in 2002 and the standing rigging was replaced in 2022. All day to day running rigging is bought back to the cockpit for safety.
In 2023 Fox’s yard, well known as one of the best in Europe, shot blasted the hull under the water line, and carefully prepared her before applying a new gel epoxy coat and Coppercoat antifouling. The topsides were then prepared and painted. Great to get this work done to reduce future maintenance.
The Beta Marine 50 BHP inboard diesel only has 555 recorded hours, as does the built in generator. The batteries, cabling and charger have also been replaced. The mast has been fully rewired with new LED lights and high quality VHF aerial system
Her deck was carefully checked by a surveyor in 2021. The teak deck was then treated with Kiwi Grip, the result being that with her generous side decks, she feels safe to move around, regardless of sea state.
This is a boat that means business, she has the usual B40 cutter rig along with in-mast furling of the main, providing ease of reefing from the cockpit as and when required. Six cockpit winches in total, two on the coachroof and four (two smaller and two large) to either side make for easy management of the canvas, with an electric winch under the sprayhood for furling the main and other duties.
When in the marina, or close-manouvering, her powerful recent bow thruster makes light work of small spaces with all controls to the helm.
For longer passages, she has a new AIS transmit and receive system, a new VHF, and Raymarine equipment all connected by NMEA 2000.
Equipped with strong Davits to keep a tender out of the way, an outboard engine bracket is also included on the pushpit (dinghy and engine not included).
This is the 2 heads version with both forward and aft cabin providing excellent length of berth, something that will appeal to the taller sailor and not usually available of boats of this era.
The saloon has a folding table that when open, provides space for eight, the seating incorporating a U shaped berth to port and a straight berth to starboard.
The kitchen is a well-equipped U shape, enabling safe use when out on the rolling seas, complete with microwave, large fridge, dual sinks, drinking and fresh water as well as hot and cold pressurised throughout the boat. The gas cooker provides ample flexibility with griddle and twin burners. Twin gas bottle stowage in the aft cockpit locker.
Last but not least she has a new full cockpit canopy that creates extra space and protection from the elements.
She comes with lots of inventory including a spare anchor, warps, fenders and much more but the only way you are going to appreciate this vessel is to come and see her.
