The condition or level of safety equipment on board is not to be negotiated on following survey. It is likely to be listed by most surveyors but is not structural or an integral working part of the vessel and is not to be used to further negotiate the price down after survey. We strongly suggest that for your own personal safety that when purchasing a yacht you provide new safety equipment rather than relying on second hand gear.
Should you become the new owner of this yacht then the responsibility to re-register or update official bodies for items such as EPIRB, VHF, MMSI or AIS becomes yours.
Owners Comments
We purchased Betsy in 2021 & refitted her at vast expense in preparation for the Atlantic Rally Challenge & possible onward cruising in the Pacific. I have sailed all my life, including transatlantic & Biscay deliveries (this is my fourth yacht). We refitted her to minimise future maintenance problems at sea – for example replacing all through hull seacocks, shot blasting & awlgrip painting the spars, new battery charger and both headsail roller furlers, even though the original were fully functional, as well as modernising & overhauling all the existing equipment as listed above. As she was to be our home afloat, we also updated the interior, with new lighting systems, upholstery & Corian style galley worktops & updated heads with a vinyl wrap.
We considered many second hand blue water boats and quickly learnt that an apparent ‘bargain’ would need a substantial 6 figure investment to prepare for the type of voyage we had in mind. We are delighted with the investment in Betsy – she has been a fast passage maker & supremely comfortable at sea & at anchor. She has been very lightly used and spent much of her previous life alone & ashore, as the images demonstrate. Sadly, due to family health issues, we will not be taking her on another ocean passage, but she is ready to enjoy the blue water again with a new owner, who we hope will love & appreciate her as much as we do. Available for viewing in Preveza, Greece (which is easily accessible from most of Europe during the summer) at any time with adequate notice & can be delivered anywhere in the world post purchase.
