Description
STARRY NIGHT is a contemporary ocean going cruiser that evokes the look, feel and sea-kindliness of traditional cruising yachts.
She is fast, dry, stable and a delight to own and sail.  Please read further to learn more about the virtues of STARRY NIGHT.
OVERVIEW
STARRY NIGHT was designed by Alfred Sanford, builder of the Alerion Class Sloops of Nantucket reknown.
Inspired by L.Francis Herreshoff's R-Class, YANKEE, she was built in cold-molded wood over a framework of longitudinal stringers. She is exceptionally strong and well ballasted.
Looking back to the beauty of traditional Butternut interiors, the accommodation was built in light weight, yet strong, panel technique that is basic to her cozy, reassuring interior. All told, nine species of wood were used in her construction.
She is capable of offshore passages but is primarily intended for coastal cruising by a couple or single-hander but can handily take on a children or a guest or two. Consequently, she is shoal draft and her yawl rig is arranged for ease of single handed sailing. She is tiller steered.
Her accommodation includes an aft cabin with double bunk for the owner. In the saloon she has two outboard pilot berths, a saloon table serviced by the settees, and a galley in the forward area. The Focs'l has an excellent sea berth and ample stowage for ground tackle and an inflatable dinghy.
Her equipment has been kept simple to keep her sailing and out of the repair yard. She has an ice box, a diesel cook stove, foot pumped fresh and salt water, a single head with the exquisite Skipper toilet. She is powered by a 9hp Yanmar diesel with Saildrive which will push her along and 5 knots for about 200 miles.
She is fast, dry stable and a delight to sail.
She was built by the Pease Brothers Boat Works and Marine Railway in 2009.
