Description
We introduce the Arcona 50, the first Arcona model designed by Jeppesen & Pons and 'The New Flagship' of the Arcona fleet.
We introduce the Arcona 50, the first Arcona model designed by Jeppesen & Pons and 'The New Flagship' of the Arcona fleet. This 50-foot performance cruiser marks the beginning of a gradual change for Arcona Yachts, with a new collaboration between designers and many new design elements coming together in this new eye-catcher.
The brief for the first Arcona by Jeppesen & Pons was to design a 50-foot performance cruiser that could be easily handled by two people. This had to be done, of course, in true Arcona style, combining incredible sailing performance with all the luxury you can expect from an Arcona.
Important in the design of the Arcona 50 was to ensure that it is suitable for an international market, both in terms of performance and comfort. Whether you are sailing long distances, cruising in the Archipelago, or participating in a race, the Arcona 50 is extremely suitable for all these purposes.
The Arcona 50 is ideal for safe and comfortable long-distance cruising. As a first for Arcona, the Arcona 50 features twin rudders, with standard aluminum rudder stocks. The twin rudders provide more control in the water. Another first for Arcona is the addition of a garage for a dinghy. Waterproof composite bulkheads separate the interior space from both the fore sail locker and the dinghy garage.
New at Arcona are also the L-shaped cockpit benches and the two cockpit tables, which improve functionality and allow guests and crew to move more easily through the cockpit while sailing. The benches contain 4 self-draining storage lockers, large enough for a life raft on starboard and lines/berths on port. The rear hatches on port and starboard provide space for the yacht's gas bottles and shore power connection.
Sailing your way
The Arcona 50 comes standard with twin steering wheels, and the cockpit layout and sail handling systems are set up for shorthanded sailing and ease of use.
It features a triple-spread mast with interrupted rod rigging, plus twin hydraulic backstay cylinders with a central pump station. A carbon mast and furling boom are available as upgrades.
Optionally, an inner forestay can be fitted to attach a heavy weather furling genoa for an ocean crossing. There is also the option for a bowsprit, for easy controllable use of asymmetric sails.
In addition to the winches, there are special storage spaces for halyards and sheets, keeping the cockpit tidy.
The well-sized 4-cylinder engine drives a folding propeller. Vibrations and noise are kept to a minimum. Optional retractable bow thrusters provide maximum maneuverability in narrow marinas.
These are just a few of the clever design details from Jeppesen & Pons that show how this offshore performance cruiser has been optimally designed.
