    Tjalk Barge 74 (lowered)

    Sandwich, Kent, United Kingdom
    1898
    $140,266

Specifications:   Year:                       1898                       LOA:                       22.6 m Beam:                     4.57 m                                              Draft:                      1.36 m Construction:           Steel                                                   Hull/Keel:                Flat HIN:                        N/A   Description: ‘Grietje’ is a wonderfully looked after original sailing Dutch Tjalk that has been converted into a liveaboard. The barge is a historic boat, originally built in 1898 by Drews Hoogezand as a working vessel. ‘Grietje’ has been in our family since 2006, and took part in the 2012 Queen’s River Thames Pageant as one of the oldest boats on the river Thames. She's been very well looked after and cared for, and is ready to be moved onto straight away. We look forward to passing over this fantastic piece of history. She's sold unfurnished with a complete 2021 boat survey (as well as survey/service history dating back to 2004). There is the option to take on the mooring at the Embankment Marina, Gravesend, if you should so wish. Inside the barge… The barge has received a renovation using proper insulation covered over with painted marine moisture resistant ply. Coming down from the wheel house you come into an area affectionally known as the skipper’s cabin that could be used as a utility space or a home office or children’s play room. A new WC with full height stand up shower is on your right as you move through the boat. Moving further on, a renovated kitchen sold with all white goods including a washing machine, full size gas double oven and hobs and plenty of storage space leads into a wide open-plan saloon living area. The saloon benefits from beautiful brass port holes, authentic brass skylights leaving the saloon area flooded with natural light and an ornate log burner. This large living area is unfurnished and is in effect a blank canvas to allow her new owners the freedom to configure it as they choose. Finally coming to the master cabin which has a built in queen size bed. Onto the hidden parts…  She comes fitted with a DAF 6 cylinder 195 HP engine that was serviced at the beginning of 2021, and was used to transport her from Gravesend to Hoo to be slipped and back again without missing a beat. The external topsides and coach roof have also benefited from full repaint in 2022 so she is looking extremely pretty! She has an originally riveted iron hull that has been over-plated with 6mm steel. The vessel was drydocked in 2021, with a 35,000 PSI blast/strip back to a WJ2 standard. She then went through an ultrasonic underwater survey, steel welding repairs were completed, a suite of 14 new anodes fitted and finally she was coated with a 10 year 2-pack epoxy International paint system meaning she does not need to be re-slipped until 2031. The bilges have also been cleaned and resealed from the interior. The barge is warmed by an oil based boiler that takes its feed from the fuel tank, with 11 radiators in the system keeping the living space toasty warm even in the coldest winter months. On the outside… With a keenness to keep the original lines of such a beautiful vessel, the only detraction from the original specification of the build is the collapsible wheel house at the stern. Outside of this, the original rigging, sails, deck equipment, mast, lee boards are all included and are in cosmetic (not operational) condition as is the norm for liveaboards. The deck coaming has also been raised slightly to allow generous head room in the living area, but not so much it detracts from the lines.   Engine(s) & Electrical: DAF 195hp, 6 cylinder diesel. Last serviced: May 2021. Drive type: shaft. Maximum speed: 6kts. Fuel capacity: 750 litres. Fuel consumption: 12 litres/hour. 4 batteries charged from the engine. Shore power. 30Amp Victron battery charger. 240v Lister diesel generator.   Deck & Canvas: 2 anchors, anchor windlass, deck hatches, warps, fenders, cockpit cushions.   Navigation & Safety: VHF, navigation lights, gas detector, bilge pumps, fire extinguishers.   Miscellaneous: Hull overplated with steel, and treated with 10 year Intershield 2pac epoxy. Viewings are by appointment only. 'Kilifi' was built by Fibocon Yachts in the Netherlands, where she spent a good portion of her life, before being brought over to the UK. Over the last 3 years 'Kilifi' has had an extensive interior and exterior refit, with the internal layout being modernised to make her more comfortable, the electrics have been replaced now featuring LED lights throughout, as well as accent and mood lighting. The chart table and nav station has been completely refurbished with new switch panel, stereo, VHF and heating controls fitted. A gas oven and hob has been installed, pressurised cold water, built in cool box and 12v/240V portable cool box. The galley has been updated and modernised. The heads have been completely refurbished to give the boat a much lighter feel – increasing space available. All seacocks were replaced in 2018, the engine seacock being replaced in spring 2021. The Vetus engine has been serviced by her owner annually at the beginning of ever season, fuel tank drained ever season and refilled with clean fresh diesel to avoid diesel bug. Port side aft shroud plate was replaced in the summer of 2020 and re-sealed as it showed signs of water ingress. The standing and running rigging was replaced in 2012 – the boat has been sailed very conservatively since and shows no signs of wear. 'Kilifi' is equipped with a Garmin GPS unit, wind direction, speed and depth. 2 x anchors, chain and warp stored fwd in the anchor locker. Lifebuoy and light mounted on the pushpit, boarding ladder. 'Kilifi' comes equipped with a very good condition genoa and a fair condition mainsail, she also has a selection of other sails, as well as a very good condition spinnaker. She sails excellently under genoa alone, and the sails she has offer a very flexible sail plan for any conditions, without the need to swap sails constantly. 'Kilifi' benefits from roller headsail furling and slab reefing mainsail as well as lazy-jacks for ease of sail handling. A brand-new mainsail cover is present as well as headsail cover, full boat cover and cockpit canopy. Overall 'Kilifi' is a very well set up coastal cruisier, more than capable of making a comfortable live aboard or weekend medium distance cruiser. Capable of easily achieving speeds of over 6kts under sail. She is now looking for a new home, and with only very small improvements she will be a very capable cruiser for years to come."   Engine(s) & Electrical: Vetus 31hp, 4 cylinder diesel (new in 2008).
