  2. Tjalk Barge 74 (available)

    Tjalk Barge 74 (available)

    Sandwich, Kent, United Kingdom
    1898
    $216,641

Specifications:   Year:                       1898                       LOA:                       22.6 m Beam:                     4.57 m                                              Draft:                      1.36 m Construction:           Steel                                                   Hull/Keel:                Flat HIN:                        N/A   Description: 'Grietje' is a wonderfully looked after original sailing Dutch Tjalk that has been converted into a two/three bedroom liveaboard. Built in 1898 by Drews Hoogezand as a working vessel, she is an originally riveted iron hull that has been fully over-plated with 6mm steel. The vessel has been dry docked in 2021, with a full 35,000 PSI blast/strip back to a WJ2 standard. She then went through a full ultrasonic underwater survey, steel welding repairs completed, full suite of 14 new anodes and finally coated with a 10 year 2pac epoxy International paint system meaning she does not need to be re-slipped until 2031. The bilges have also been cleaned and resealed from the interior. She is sold with a complete 2021 boat survey (as well as survey/service history dating back to 2004) and also the option to take on the mooring at the Embankment Marina, Gravesend. With a keenness to keep the original lines of such a beautiful vessel, the only detraction from the original specification of the build is the fully collapsible wheelhouse at the stern. Outside of this, the original rigging, sails, deck equipment, mast, lee boards are all accounted for and in working order. The deck coaming has also been raised slightly to allow generous head room in the living area, but not so much it detracts from the lines. She also comes fitted with a DAF 6 cylinder 195 HP engine that was serviced at the beginning of 2021 and was used to transport her from Gravesend to Hoo to be slipped and back again without missing a beat. The external topsides and coach roof have also benefited from full repaint recently so she is looking extremely pretty! Internally, the barge has received a full renovation using proper insulation covered over with painted marine moisture resistant ply. Coming down from the wheelhouse you come into an area affectionately known as the skippers cabin that could be used as an utility space or a home office or children’s play room. A new bathroom with full height stand up shower is on your right as you move through the boat and a toilet with a heated seat! Moving further on, a fully renovated kitchen sold with all white goods including a washing machine, full size gas double oven and hobs, plenty of storage space leading into a wide open plan saloon living area. The saloon benefits from beautiful brass portholes and authentic brass skylights leaving the saloon area flooded with natural light. Forward of the mast step there is the option of fitting in another bedroom before finally coming to the master cabin which has a built in queen size bed. The barge is warmed by an oil based boiler that takes it’s feed from the fuel tank, and with 11 radiators in the system leaves the living space toasty warm even in the coldest winter months. It also benefits from a beautifully ornate log burner in the main saloon. 'Grietje' has been in our family since 2006, and took part in the 2012 Queen’s River Thames Pageant as one of the oldest boats on the river Thames. She has been very well looked after and cared for, and is ready to be moved onto straight away. We look forward to passing over this fantastic piece of history.    Engine(s) & Electrical: DAF 195hp, 6 cylinder diesel. Last serviced: May 2021. Drive type: shaft. Maximum speed: 6kts. My mum and stepdad purchased the boat in 2009, and had her moored on the River Wey in Guildford. They frequently used her for leisure holidays where they took her on the Thames Ring up to Oxford, and along the Union Canal. In 2017, my partner and I purchased the boat off my parents and made it our home. For 2 years we lived on the Thames in Staines, Middlesex. We loved every moment on the boat, and cherished putting our own stamp on her. One of the first things my partner did was hand paint the front doors of the boat in her own style. In late 2019, we decided to move to Kent and we took the boat with us on the back of a flatbed arctic lorry where she was then placed on hardstanding in Sandwich. Here we took the time to renovate her inside; fitting new kitchen counters and sink, stripping out the bathroom and turning it into a wet room with a sea toilet, and refiguring the bedroom completely. We also re-blacked the hull ourselves, and sanded, primed and painted the outside, as well as adding the front detailing by hand too. Having lived on the boat for 4 years, it is sad to sell her. However, when we found out we were having our first child, we realised it was time to start a life on land again. We hope that whoever buys the boat enjoys her as much as we have done, and acknowledges the amount of love we have put into her- and are also inspired to put their own stamp on her."    Engine(s) & Electrical: Lister SWM2 diesel.         Specifications:   Year:                       1969                       LOA:                       26' Beam:                     8'                                              Draft:                      2' 6" Construction:                                                                     GRP      Hull/Keel:                Twin HIN:                        N/A   Description: In many respects a Snapdragon 26 is similar to a Westerly Centaur. Their internal volumes are roughly identical, the Westerly displacing 6,700 lbs and the Snapdragon 4,500 lbs. Both offer comparable caravan-type accommodation. The main difference between them is the configuration of their keels. The most popular version of the Snapdragon has bilge keels; others have fin keels. Either way, the keels are encapsulated, unlike the Centaur’s, which are of cast iron bolted to the hull. The Snapdragon’s keels are upright, but the Centaur’s are splayed. The latter are more efficient for windward sailing; however, when it comes to settling in mud, splayed keels are subjected to unfair forces tending to push them apart. In some cases this has caused leaks where the keel bolts pass through the hull. Snapdragon 26s were designed by L. Wakefield, and about 200 of them were built between 1966 and 1969 by Thames Marine at Canvey Island, Essex, England. If you are looking for a cheap family cruising yacht, these boats are ideal.   Engine(s) & Electrical: Yanmar 1GM10, 8hp diesel.
